How to Get Rid of Sunburn

You have a great holiday at the beach. You spent the whole afternoon baking under the sun. When it’s time to leave, you realized that you forgot to put sunscreen lotion and you get sunburn! Ouch! It hurts a lot isn’t it? So how do you get rid of sunburn?

Aloe Vera is one of the best solution to treat sunburn so consider this as your first option. Sunburn can also be quite dehydrating so drink more water to counter the dryness in your body. When the skin peels away exposing the new skin, be sure to apply moisturizer to prevent irritation.

Treatment with milk: Fill a bowl with milk and add ice to it. Dip the cloth into the cold milk and squeeze out the excess. Dap the cloth on the affected area, pressing lightly on the skin. If the cloth gets a little warm, dip the cloth into the cold milk again and repeat the process. Repeat everything until the skin area feels cool. This is also very effective on face too. Treatment with tea: You will need to brew 3-4 teabags in warm-hot water. When the tea is almost black in color, remove the tea bag and let it cool down to room temperature. Go to sleep and try to shower the tea residue the next morning. Some people reported that it works like magic. (Note that if you wear any clothing the tea residue may stain your clothes so wear something that you may want to throw away).

Tomato treatment: Some people apply tomato directly on the skin area. The juice from tomato will help to reduce the redness. Some people said that this treatment is great for sunburn that is very recent. I would say I rather eat the tomatoes as it helps more in that way. 🙂

Chest Rub: Get a chest rub, like a Mentholatum Ointment. Apply it on your throat and chest to relief yourself from the coughing pains.

Humidifier: If you cough a lot at night, use a humidifier to “wet” the air. It can reduce your night cough a lot.

As a caution, if your cough persists for more than 2 weeks, you must seek a doctor’s attention. Most of the natural remedies that I have talked about will help stop the cough in less than one week.
